If you are struggling right now: call or text
988,
or text HOME to 741741.
Veterans, press 1 after you call 988. The practice can wait. You matter more.
For the conversation you are actually dreading: the record, the gap, the accommodation you need, the first job with no history. Build your answer in your own words, then practice it from your chair and from theirs, because fear sits on both sides of the table.
Built from 21 branching scenarios across five situations, each choice graded against the disclosure and desistance research (Maruna 2001; Pager 2003; Ali, Lyons & Ryan 2017; SHRM 2021; EEOC 2012), and a story builder built on the three-part answer from Invest Hamilton County's re-entry research
Deterministic and device-only: nothing writes your answer for you and nothing you type is sent anywhere. Alex Plus members can choose to send a draft to the coach for one reply, which is not stored. Written at a sixth-grade reading level on purpose.

When you break something
The moment that decides what the rest of the placement is like.
Every workplace runs on people saying early when something is wrong. The mistake is rarely the problem. Finding out late almost always is. This is the single most transferable thing a placement can teach you.
Supervisor: “Hey, did you move the samples off the second tray?”
Strong move
Fast, complete, and it ends with a question that makes the next hour better. This is what they mean by professionalism.
Depends on the room
Buys you thirty seconds and costs you the thing that matters most on a work site, which is being someone whose account can be relied on.
Costs you something
If it comes back to you, and it usually does, the problem is no longer the samples. Nothing recovers from this quickly.
Supervisor: “It's fine, we can redo them. Just tell me next time, alright?”
Strong move
You turned a mistake into a rule you now carry. That is the whole point of a placement.
Depends on the room
Kindly meant, and it makes them manage your feelings on top of the samples. One clear acknowledgement is enough.
Costs you something
This moves it back onto them. They already said it was fine; do not spend the goodwill arguing.
Now you, out loud
One way it can sound
“”
Keep these
Say it early. The delay is the damage.
One clear acknowledgement, then a rule you will carry.
Nobody expects you to know. They expect you to say.
